Weaving the Story of ‘Bindarry Yuruun’ (Long R Weaving the Story of ‘Bindarry Yuruun’ (Long River), A Gumbaynggirr History project of the Bellinger River sea and river Country workshops. This is a cross-cultural Creative Placemaking project funded through a grant from @bellingenshirecouncil focusing on histories of place, pre-contact, contact and colonial through to contemporary times, weaving the shared story onto a sail donated by the USTC. With the Gumbaynggirr Wenonah Head Aboriginal Corporation, workshops have been held to tell stories of Gumbaynggirr histories and enduring presence within contemporary Bellingen Shire, through weaving, social connections and knowledge holder storytelling from in and around our local areas, celebrating resilience and healing through story. Using Salvaged fabrics and materials we are in the processes of continuing to create the story of Bindarry Yuruun onto sails; so invite the wider community to come along and assist in the last two workshops on Friday the 7th and Saturday the 8th of July at 9 Bellingen Street, Urunga from 10:30am-2:30pm. Bring a plate of food to share for lunch and contact Kerry (0490349378) for more details.

Our new Commodore Derek and up and coming Instruct Our new Commodore Derek and up and coming Instructor Alice at Lisa Blair’s talk on her record sailing around the world through Antarctic waters was a very scary story of drama, erratic sleep patterns, 40-60 knot winds, knock downs, average 12metre waves and makeshift boat repairs, and the scenario of running out of fuel 1000kms from help was just crazy...but good ... and that was just her first attempt. A very inspiring talk. ⛵️
